What makes our Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) different?

  • SWIHA is one of the very few nationally accredited schools offering the option to take a YTT program independently or along with additional career-expanding holistic programs such as Massage Therapy, Hypnotherapy, Yoga Nidra, Yoga Body Psychology and more.

  • Our training blends Eastern and Western, ancient and modern philosophy and practice.

  • Yoga Teacher Training students receive unlimited access to studio classes for the duration of their program and the year after graduation.

  • We offer convenient day, evening and fast track class schedules.

  • Our dedicated educators are actively practicing in the holistic wellness field and are registered with Yoga Alliance® as E-RYT 500s, meaning that they have completed a 500-hour training program of their own and logged a minimum of 2,000 hours of teaching experience over at least four years.

  • You will experience creating and teaching real, public classes towards the end of your program.

  • Graduates register as yoga teachers through the internationally-recognized Yoga Alliance® organization and carry the official designation of Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT).

Financial Aid Available for Those Who Qualify

SWIHA is a nationally-accredited college approved by the United States Department of Education. Students enrolled in programs of 600 hours or more may qualify for Federal Student Aid in the form of Pell grants and student loans. Title IV Financial Aid is available to those who qualify

3 Levels of Yoga Teacher Training:

SWIHA is unique in being one of the very few nationally accredited schools offering the option to take a YTT program independently or along with additional career-expanding holistic modalities such as: Massage Therapy, Yoga Body Psychology, Hatha Gong, Yoga Nidra, Transformational Yoga Coaching and more.

Yoga Teacher Training -
200 Hours

Your journey as a yoga teacher starts here: Create health, well-being and a deep spiritual connection with your clients. Completed in just over 7 months with the AM or PM schedule, or just over 4 months on the Fast Track schedule, this program is designed to support all who desire to deepen their personal spiritual connection through learning to master the principles and practice of Yoga.

Study yoga postures, philosophy, styles and teaching techniques to gain a comprehensive understanding of this mind-body-spirit modality. In the final weeks of training, you will design and receive coaching while teaching actual studio classes, giving you the unique opportunity to teach groups while getting hands-on yoga teacher training.

Broaden your opportunities while you earn your 200-hour teacher training certificate with a combination of career-expanding holistic programs and specialties such as Aromatherapy, Hypnotherapy or even an Associate’s Degree in Mind-Body Transformational Psychology.

Yoga Advanced Teacher Training - 600 Hours

Completed in just over 12 months and including over 400 hours of advanced and transformational yoga training, 100 hours of a yoga-centered primary specialty and 80 hours of electives, the 600-Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training program builds upon our Yoga Alliance approved 200-Hour YTT program. Whether you have completed our 200- hour YTT or completed a Yoga Alliance approved 200-hour program elsewhere, you are welcome to enroll in one of our advanced programs.

If you would like to include a variety of yoga experience in your training and plan to teach individuals and/or groups, this program is ideal for you. Requirements include completing six additional yoga-specific advanced courses, 100-hours of yoga-specific electives and a 100-hour primary specialty of your choice.

The goal of this diploma program is to deepen and strengthen your yoga teaching ability, as well as provide for specialization that increases your employment options, and expands your opportunities to serve in the world.

Advanced Yoga Teacher & Healing Arts Practitioner - 800 Hours

Completed in just over 16 months, the 800-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher & Healing Arts Practitioner program includes over 400 hours of advanced and transformational yoga training, 200 hours of a yoga-centered primary specialty, 200 hours of any combinations of electives, safety and entrepreneurial training and specialty courses. This in-depth yoga education prepares you to expertly teach groups and includes a therapeutic specialty that allows for one-on-one work with clients.

Requirements include completion of six yoga-specific advanced courses with the opportunity to take an additional 300 hours of electives plus a 100-hour therapeutic specialty. The therapeutic specialty brings in layers of powerful holistic modalities like Polarity, Reiki, Life Coaching with Nutrition, Yoga Nidra, Reflexology or Aromatherapy while enhancing your yoga teacher’s tool kit.

Specialty tracks for 600-hour and 800-hour yoga teacher training:

Yoga Studio Track

Develop the tools necessary to expand your skills to expertly teach in a studio setting. Choose a combination of 100 hours of electives to add a personal touch to your practice, based on your unique interests. Add a healing element to your art through such courses as Aromatherapy: Intro for Yoga Teachers, to enhance any style of yoga with essential oils. Restorative Yoga will teach you how to help students deeply relax and restore vital energy, necessary to living a whole and balanced life. And in Yoga for PTSD, you will learn to define and recognize the difference in the behavior presented by those experiencing post event stress.

Yoga Body Psychology Track

Certificate of Excellence -100 Hours | Yoga Body Psychology I-IV plus Practicum

The Amrit Method of Yoga Body Psychology is designed to treat visible physical symptoms and the invisible mental and emotional blocks that contribute to them. Using gravity supported, static poses held by the facilitator, or with the use of the wall or props, you will learn how to surface and release blockages held in the body. Enhance your understanding of the energetic aspects of yoga and how to use it for yourself and others as one of the most profound healing modalities you will ever encounter. Meet the Instructor: Dr. Marie Bailey
(Psy. D., ERYT-500, C-IAYT)

Dr. Marie Bailey (Psy. D., ERYT-500, C-IAYT) is a Senior Faculty member at the Amrit Yoga Institute in Salt Springs, Florida where she is a trainer in the Amrit Method of Yoga Therapy and Amrit Method Yoga Nidra Professional Trainings. She has a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and spent many years in her first career as a psychologist. She holds every Amrit Method certification. A Yogi through and through, Marie fell in love with the Amrit Yoga Methods in 2009 when she first met Kamini Desai, Ph.D. and her father Yogi Amrit Desai. Marie is a practicing Yoga Therapist, a teacher, and lecturer. She currently resides in Jacksonville, Florida. Marie is the owner of Emotive Yoga Therapy in Jacksonville, FL.

Yoga Nidra Track

Certificate of Excellence -100 Hours | Yoga – Nidra I – IV plus Practicum

SWIHA’s Yoga Nidra program will teach you an ancient yoga practice that is becoming immensely popular in the West. Yoga Nidra brings the body and mind to a deeply relaxed state in order to access healing, stress-release and well-being. This practice powerfully and holistically helps your clients with physical, neurological and subliminal needs. Learn from world-renowned instructor Kamini Desai, who incorporates Western psychology with Eastern Philosophy to bring you this sought-after therapy.


Meet the Instructor: Kamini Desai

Kamini Desai is a nationally renowned teacher and expert in the field of Yoga Nidra. She holds degrees in Anthropology and Psychology from Smith College and La Salle University and trained at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health. Her focus on personal empowerment and fulfillment have led her to serve as the Education Director and Core Curriculum Developer for the Amrit Yoga Institute, to act as one of the three Founding Directors of the International University of Yoga and Ayurve- da, and to teach Yoga Nidra courses here at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts. She has over 25 years of experience in combining the ancient wisdom of yoga with modern psychology principles in order to create the unique body of Yoga Nidra teachings.

Spirit of Yoga, our training facility:

SWIHA’s Yoga Teacher Training program is presented at Spirit of Yoga, our premier yoga education facility and yoga studio. Located on beautiful, park-like grounds in Tempe, Arizona, Spirit of Yoga is a sanctuary for those practicing and learning the art and science of yoga. Yoga Teacher Training as well as regularly scheduled community yoga classes are held in its three spacious, beautifully appointed studio spaces. In the final weeks of training, yoga teachers-to-be are able to design and be coached through teaching actual studio classes, giving them the unique opportunity for hands-on yoga teacher training to groups.
